Community-driven Kichwa and art workshops originally created this series of processional banners as part of the Talk of the Town Artist-in-Residence program at El Museo del Barrio. These banners are currently being used in a weekly vigil in front of the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where immigrant communities are held. "Hatarisunchik" (To Rise Up) serves as an ideal platform for celebrating resistance to escalating state oppression. The banners aim to chronicle the resilience of Kichwa and Ecuadorian communities both in New York and Ecuador.
