This series of processional banners was first created by community-driven Kichwa and art workshops as part of the Talk of the Town, Artist in Residence program at El Museo del Barrio. They are currently being used in a weekly vigil in front of the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where immigrant communities are currently being held. "Hatarisunchik" (To Rise Up) offered an ideal platform to celebrate resistance to escalating state oppression. These banners aim to be a chronicle of the resilience of the Kichwa and Ecuadorean communities, both in New York and Ecuador.
