Mural made in Quito, Ecuador, in two phases, in the span of two years, in collaboration with fellow artist Mona Caron. The project began as a request from a coalition of indigenous leaders protecting their territories and cultures in Ecuador to create a permanent demonstration of their struggle, a way to confront and educate the general public in the capital without constant criminalization. The first phase was created in response to the exclusion of the leaders portrayed from the 10th World Urban Forum, held in Quito. The second phase was to provide the context and magnitude of their struggle. Ultimately, this work celebrates those who defend life on earth against fossil fuel extraction, mining projects, and agricultural practices that threaten food sovereignty.
